Jalan Surabaya Flea Market is located in the prosperous suburb of Menteng in Jakarta. Founded in the 1970s, the market initially only opened on weekends, when traders would walk among the locals with their belongings, mainly selling household items.

At one point in the 1980s, one of the kiosk owners began selling antiques, and seeing his popularity, other vendors immediately followed him!

This half-kilometer stretch of shops and kiosks now offers everything from old gramophones and vinyl records to art, woodcarvings, furniture, and textiles, along with various kinds of antiques.

You can see kiosks / shops that sell antiques such as puppets, porcelain, wooden sculptures, masks, food items made of silver and brass. Also antique lights, metal souvenirs, old fashion ornaments, old telephones, old cameras, old woven fabrics, phonograph recordings, and and some other old items. There are several kiosks that specifically sell bags and luggage, as well as old books.

To be remembered and noticed, bargaining is expected, of course, with good vendors starting expensive transactions in the hope that buyers will encourage difficult bargaining.
