
Mount Bromo has an altitude of 1299 meters above sea level and is known as a major tourist attraction in East Java. This mountain is in the area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, and still active.
The name Bromo itself comes from Sanskrit: Brahma, which is one of the main deities in Hinduism.
The body shape of Mount Bromo is connected between the valley and the canyon with the caldera or sea of sand covering about 10 square kilometers. Many people who often consider Mount Batok as Mount Bromo because of its adjacent location and also because of the appearance of Mount Batok that looks like a real mountain.
Mount Bromo itself is actually hollow and still actively spewing volcanic fumes until now.

For the local people, the Tengger, Mount Bromo is believed to be a sacred mountain. Once a year the people of Tengger hold Yadnya Kasada or Kasodo ceremonies. The ceremony is housed in a temple that is under the foot of Mount Bromo and continued to the top of Bromo. The ceremony takes place from midnight to dawn every full moon around the 14th or 15th of the month of Kasodo (tenth) according to the Java calendar (Wikipedia).
To see the sunrise from the top of Bromo, usually a lot of tourists start from the city of Surabaya, Malang, or Jember. The trip can start around 11 or 12 pm so you will arrive at the area of Mount Bromo around 2 or 3 am the next day. There you can rest before you get ready to climb the stairs above Bromo to see the beautiful sunrise.
You can enjoy the natural scenery and cool morning air in the area of Mount Bromo until around 9 am and then ready to return to the city where you go.
